70s gay porn, backwards disco, Nomadic cultures

new at Salford's Islington Mill:

Exhibition Opening and Backwards Disco // Thursday 29 September// 6pm to 9pm

Exhibition continues until 30 October // Opening times Wed to Fri 10am to 5pm

As September draws to a close we are in the midst of installing our next exhibition American Bodies by current artist in residence David Wojtowycz. Opening on Thursday the 29th September it will be a chance to see his new work and learn a little more about our future residency plans.

David uses Gay porno magazines from the 70s and 80s, film posters, magazine images and trailers of old black and white movies to generate products that are even more glamorous, pornographic, artistic, emotional and idealistic than the originals. Through the reflections of bodies, lines of text, logos and architecture, hybrid images arise that conjure up imprecise memories, emotions, fears and longing.

Following the exhibition opening we will be hosting a Backwards Disco where you are invited to bring along 45s from your own vinyl collection and play them on a record player that plays backwards created by David inspired by his fascination with the myth that Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven played backwards has the phrase “Oh I never will be saved, because I live with Satan”. David created this player along with 20 inverted record sleeves, which are all centered around the word 'Boy', as part of AND festival and we are very excited to see it here at Islington Mill as well.
